Marvel is on top of it’s game!!
Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) has been in prison for theft and B&E (Breaking & Entering) to name a few, and is finally released. Now that he’s a free man, Scott is determined to become a better man for the sake of his daughter.
Okay this prison has to be the friendliest prison I’ve ever seen on the big screen! Either they didn’t want it to be too violent or we’ve been lied to about how prisons are actually not as bad.
Scott has a positive attitude…and that’s pretty much it. Yeah, very difficult to get a good job with a criminal record. So with no one willing to take a chance on him, he becomes desperate and goes back to crime for pay.
Helping him into completing his mission is three very unlikely men. I have to give huge props to Michael Pena who plays his best friend Luis. This dude is hilarious! If it weren’t for Rudd own comedic acting, the movie would have been saved by Pena!
What they thought would be an easy, b & e, turned out to be a bust. In the vault they thought would have shit loads of cash, contained a suit…the Ant-man suit.
But of course they don’t know the significance of the suit yet. Now, I’ve heard of the Ant-man. I knew he had a suit that allowed him to shrink him to a size of an ant. The rest of his backstory is pretty much blank. Other than the obviously, I didn’t know much about him. I will say that when I heard they were attempting to bring him to life I was all for it. However, seeing the trailer I became spectacle.
Scott taking the suit with him and trying it out to see why they would hide such suit, was fantastic! Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) the first, original Ant-man talks to Scott using the suit and informs him that their meeting will be soon.
Once they meet, under dramatic circumstances, Pym offers Scott a shot of redemption. Scott would become the new Ant-man and help Pym steal from his old student Darren Cross (Corey Stoll) who has successfully replicated Pym formula to create the Ant-man suit.
Of course in any superhero movie, in the wrong hands anything good can be turned into a weapon of mass destruction. Cross, obsessed with the concept of the Ant-man, not only creates a Yellowjacket, as he calls it, but contacts the very bad guys who will turn the world upside down, Hydra.
Pym, and Scott run out of time and not only need to act fast but act smart. With intel from the inside and someone who has Darren’s trust, agrees to help. Who better to help and that knows just as much about Ant-man than his own daughter, Hope (Evangeline Lilly).
Although, she believes that she could pull of the job better than an outsider, what the film does extremely well is show case the relationship between Hope and Pym.
The movie does a great job in referencing other Marvel films in a way that doesn’t feel like they’re just shoving a ton of stuff down your throat just to let you know they’re from the same universe. Went in not knowing anything about Ant-man and came out liking a new Marvel hero! In my opinion, that’s better than an Oscar!
Post- credits!! As a Marvel fan, we all know there is always a post credit scene that will somehow lead into the next film in the Marvel Universe. In this case there was 2, COUNT THEM 2!!! BOTH OF THEM HAD MY SHAKING WITH EXCITEMENT!!
Ant-Man is definitely worth watching and another awesome job from Marvel!
Ant-Man will Return!
