The demigod Maui (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) steals a stone which is the mystical heart of a goddess Te Fiti. As Maui tries to escape the island he is attacked by a lava demon causing him to lose his magical fish hook and losing the stone into the ocean.

Years later a princess named Moana (Auli’i Cravalho) loves the open ocean and believes that there is no to life than living on the island that her family have lived on for generations. Her father, the Chief, forbids her from ever leaving beyond the reef, the island’s flowers and food begins to die.

Moana then learns about the past and decides to seek Maui and return the stone before it’s too late. As the ocean helps her she sets sail into the open ocean.

It’s crazy because after I finished watching the movie I watched a youtuber and he described Moana having the effects of Zelda: Wind Waker and I TOTALLY SEE IT! A plus!

Every Disney needs a bad ass soundtrack and THIS ONE NAILS IT! When I found out about this movie I was interested…because it’s Disney! Then I heard that Lin Manuel- Miranda was attached to the score I fist pumped harder than the cast of Jersey shore did in a club. The man was a musical genius! While you’re watching it you are suddenly dancing along and feel what the lyrics are saying. That’s insane? Well Disney has magic that we can’t explain alright!

The chemistry between Maui and Moana is great! The duo worked so well together and again like any Disney film you need a character that is hilarious, maybe arrogant, conceited and yet in the time of need a loyal friend. Maui was someone that you can’t help but like and the guy does a lot to be disliked, which worked with the humor.

A big congrats to Auli’i Cravalho with this being her first film, and it will definitely not be her last, and bringing a relate-able and strong character. She killed it and has an astonishing voice. Welcome to the Disney life Auli’i!

Moana illustrated that our fear of new stops us from living, friendships aren’t always great in the beginning, family will always be there and believing in yourself makes you a true heroine. Another great Disney film that will be enjoyed by kids and parents!

I seriously can’t stop listening to the soundtrack…DAMN YOU LIN FOR YOUR AWESOMENESS!

Ready Player One Book Review

When being a total geek is all you need to become a legend and filthy rich.

The world is bad (relate-able) but instead of progress people escape reality and into the Oasis, a virtual stimulation world used with visors. You can leave the life you are currently living and enter a different one as a different person, a “better version” of yourself. James Halliday, the creator of Oasis, created a game within the game before his death that would give the winner his entire inheritance.

Wade lives for the Oasis. Living in a trailer park with his drug addict aunt and psychotic boyfriend, Wade tries to find a way to escape and the Oasis allows that. Halliday is Wade’s idol and since the announcement of the game, Wade has learned everything there is to know about the creator. Along with everything Halliday ever loved, including favorite movies, games, songs, television shows etc. and in order to win you had to know just that.

The game is designed for the biggest and most loyal fan! The game went on and with no success the game was later theorized as a practical joke by Halliday. Wade, Parzival the name of his avatar continued to search. After 5 years since the game Parzival found the first key to the first game out of three. That sparked the world’s interest once again and the search began again but this time with a price for Wade’s life.

The game had a ton of nostalgic! Dungeons & Dragons, Pac-man, Rush, Blade Runner, Atari 2600, etc. The players had to know everything that Halliday has ever said, wrote, watched and played by heart. Including lines from those things too to help locate the final gate. Wade is a loner and the only friend is someone who he’s never even met in the real world. The game gives him purpose and although he is searching for the first key his expectation is one of denial.

The book was slow and didn’t pick up until more than half way. Thank God for audiobooks! After weeks of still reading the book I had to pick up the audio book to speed up the process and in hopes that I would enjoy it more. The audio book read by Will Wheaton was exactly what I needed and I have to say that if it weren’t for it I probably would have stopped reading it, which is a total fail for me!

Once it finally picked up I was intrigued and found I liked the characters. You were rooting for the under appreciated geeks! Although this was a game you see that if this were to happen in the real world people would act the exact same way and I mean people would go bat shit crazy!

One thing I loved was how I could relate to the dedication Wade and the rest of the players had when memorizing certain things. I know I can recite stuff from movies and shows because I loved them so much and watch them multiple times. It goes to show we are cool humans! This wasn’t because they wanted to find the prize, for most of them anyway, but it was something they enjoyed and made them feel like they belonged.

Overall I liked it and again I give some credit to the audio book as well!

Fifty Shades Darker Movie Review (Spoiler Free)

Far more RAUNCHY then the first and that is saying something!

NOTE: This is OF COURSE the sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey, so if you haven’t seen it then there will be some confusion as to why certain things happen and whose who. But if you don’t give a shit and watch it either way, you’ll enjoy it just the same. But seriously, why haven’t you watched it?

Anastasia broke up with Christian in the last movie and it pretty much starts from there. They’re trying to forget and move on with life, and failing miserably. Christian shows up and asks to give me another chance. This movie did add more to why Christian is the way that he is and his very dark and sad past.

“No rules. No punishments. No secrets.” Shit was getting real. Anastasia knows he keeps a lot of himself closed off and that is a major part of any relationship. When he does open up, she finds that he’s entire mind set is changing as well. A character that fucks it all up is Mrs. Robinson aka Elena (Kim Basinger). This was a character in the book that had introduced Christian into the BDSM lifestyle. Anastasia knowing that what she had done was nothing more than child abuse. Christian still defending her, and claiming she’s nothing more than a friend, causes her to distances herself once again.

Kim Basinger played Mrs. Robinson so well! Someone had to play a woman of elegance, confidence and a total bitch. Well done Basinger, well done!

Anastasia gets her dream job and we went another new character. Jack Hyde (Eric Johnson) played the very hot, creepy, horny boss. Jack takes an interest on Anastasia and while she’s oblivious Christian is not. Eric Johnson did a great job playing this character and one I pictured while reading the books. He was in a cool, attractive and confident guy, a guy that got his way. The douche that when he heard the word no they would throw a hissy fit, you know that guy.

The scenes between Jack and Anastasia, along with Elena, proved just how strong willed she is and I loved that! She had a kick ass moment, two really, that made me love her even more!

Just as Christian begins to open up to Anastasia, someone from his past returns. Now, when I read the book there was a scene with Leila (Bella Heathcote) that was so fucked up that I didn’t think a book was capable of. During the movie I wondered how they were going to add that particular scene. I won’t say what scene it was but either way it didn’t make it into the movie and I don’t know how to feel about it. One, pretty glad because I don’t think I would be able to get through it without feel the same way I felt when I read it. Two, I wanted to see because it would show how mentally unstable Leila really was. All things considered what made more of an impression was Dakota Johnson’s performance and because of that the scene wouldn’t have worked.

The movie might have had a bit more sex scenes HOWEVER the scenes were STEAMIER, SEXIER, AND HOTTER in this movie! Far more than Fifty Shades of Grey, which is odd considering they had the red room but they managed to make it worth the wait. There were moments, MORE THAN ONE, that I asked, “can they do that?” I know this is fake, clearly, but they way they acted didn’t seem fake. Yes, I’ve heard it all before, “no one acts this way.” Yeah, why do you think we watch this movie? Christian and Anastasia’s relationship is so unrealistic which makes it all the more appealing.

Talking about fake sex about fictional characters I have to acknowledge the actors who have a very difficult job in bring those characters to life. In Fifty Shades of Grey I enjoyed Jamie Dornan as Christian and Dakota Johnson as Anastasia. They did a good job and the chemistry, although steamy scenes were shown, was very plain but a good introduction for the upcoming films. In this movie the chemistry was undeniable and definitely improved from the first which made they’re scenes, not just “realistic” but more invested in the characters and their love story. Jamie and Dakota have a very difficult job in not just trying to please a hella of a lot of fans but the awkwardness of doing these very intimate scenes in front of a whole crew team watching then knowing millions of people.

Fifty Shades Darker wasn’t just a better film than the first but you see how much they improved as actors since them. Dakota and Jamie are incredible actors and for them to work in a film franchise of this magnitude proves strength in the industry. I, now can not see anyone else playing this roles other than them and that says a lot.
